An Illinois couple is facing drug charges in Nebraska following a pursuit in Lincoln County.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 80 at around 1:50 a.m., on May 27.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but it reportedly entered the ditch before getting back onto the Interstate. The vehicle eventually stopped near mile marker 164 and the deputy made contact with the female driver who was identified as 40-year-old Brandi Peters of Hazel Crest, Illinois, and the passenger, 39-year-old Anwon McDonald of Markham, Illinois.

The Sheriff’s Office says Peters advised the deputy that there was a “little bit” of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 2.75 pounds of marijuana, suspected THC wax and over $1,400 in cash.

As a result, both were arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and charged with possession of marijuana more than one pound, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and no drug dealer tax stamp.
